This stunning console table is an exquisite example of a Chinese altar or scroll table, a form that has been central to Chinese furniture design since the Ming Dynasty. This piece dates to the early 20th century, utilizing traditional joinery and high-contrast decoration. The structure features a striking, smooth black lacquer finish, which dramatically frames the side cabinets. These cabinet fronts are adorned with deeply hand-carved panels, retaining their original, aged polychrome paint, creating a spectacular textural and color contrast. The result is a sculptural piece of history that commands attention in your living room, dining room or entry way. The impressive six-foot width and unusual 40-inch height make this console an essential anchor piece. Its dramatic finish and practical storage make it perfect for Maximalist, Chinoiserie, and High-End Transitional homes. Position the console behind a large sofa. Its commanding 40-inch height elevates it above standard consoles, making it an excellent display platform for lamps, vases, and books. The hidden side doors on each end open to reveal crucial internal storage, making it incredibly practical for keys, mail, and other entryway essentials.
