Surrealist Circus Painting, Unknown French Artist P3503

Details

A whimsical surrealist circus scene by an unknown French artist, dating to the 1930s. Rendered in oil on canvas and presented in its original period frame, this charming composition captures the dreamlike world beneath the circus tent. The painting features acrobats mid-performance—figures suspended on trapeze, balancing in human towers, and gathered in quiet anticipation below—set against softly stylized drapery and striped stage elements. The muted palette and slightly exaggerated proportions lend the work a poetic, almost theatrical quality. A unique and evocative piece that blends nostalgia with early 20th-century surrealist influence. Art measures 24" x 24", in frame 29" x 29"
