This Antique African ladder is a profound intersection of ancient utility and modern sculptural form. Hand-carved from a single, massive hardwood trunk by the Dogon people of Mali, this 78-inch ladder was originally a vital architectural element used to scale the high, mud-brick granaries of the West African cliffs. The rhythmic "Y" notch rungs are not merely functional steps but represent a masterclass in subtractive sculpture, carved by hand using traditional adze tools. This specific piece features a unique waxed oxidized gray finish, which preserves the rugged, weathered texture of the grain while adding a sophisticated, charcoal-toned luster. The organic curvature of the trunk and the deep, time-earned fissures in the wood provide a powerful vertical energy. Whether leaned against a gallery wall or mounted as a stationary totem, this artifact serves as a commanding focal point for Primitive Modern, Wabi-Sabi, or Global Industrial interiors. As an authentic tribal artifact, this Antique is presented in its Original Antique Condition. It displays the magnificent wear of a century of use, including natural age-related wood checks, softened rung edges, and a rich, hand-applied wax patina that honors its historical provenance. *Era: Late 19th / Early 20th Century *Size: 13“(L) x 6“(D) x 78.5“(H) *Material: Solid Hand-Carved African Hardwood *Color: Waxed Oxidized Gray *Features: Single-trunk construction; hand-carved "Y" rungs; unique tall vertical profile *Origin: Mali, West Africa (Dogon Tribe) *Condition: Original Antique Condition.
