In business as Hiemstra Evolux from 1960 to 1975 after having been established in 1934 by Niek Hiemstra and his brother-in-law as Hiemstra & Evenblij, the company was an avant-garde lighting design firm with its headquarters in Amsterdam. High-end department stores such as "De Bijenkorf" carried Hiemstra's clean, Bauhaus-inspired designs. This rare piece is a marvelous example of the company's forward looking approach to lighting.
