Dating back to the 1960s, this German mid-century modern executive desk combines richly figured teak with a polished chrome framework, creating a striking contrast between warm natural wood and cool metal. The expansive rectangular top showcases the teak grain, while its generous scale provides a substantial work surface and makes it a comfortable partner's desk. The design is distinguished by a floating storage cabinet, visually suspended within the chrome structure for a remarkably light appearance despite its substantial size. Three graduated drawers feature integrated recessed pulls, preserving the clean, uninterrupted lines of the teak facade. A pair of discreet pull-out writing surfaces, one accessible from each side, further demonstrates the design's thoughtful functionality. A polished chrome T-shaped base supports each end, connected by a long horizontal stretcher that emphasizes the desk's linear profile. The open framework leaves much of the underside exposed, enhancing the floating effect of both the desktop and storage cabinet. The teak has been newly refinished, reviving its warm reddish-brown tone and expressive grain. With its combination of refined German craftsmanship, dual-sided functionality, generous proportions, and distinctive teak-and-chrome construction, this desk captures the progressive spirit of 1960s modernism while offering a particularly sculptural approach to executive furniture.
