Details

Sensitively rendered and hand-cast, this signed bronze sculpture of a resting dog is the work of listed French artist Georges Lucien-Guyot (1885–1973) . The animal is depicted in a relaxed, familiar pose— head gently resting on crossed paws —atop a naturalistic bronze base , capturing both anatomical accuracy and emotional subtlety. Born to a modest family, Guyot was apprenticed to a woodcarver and honed his craft by copying 15th-century religious works. Fascinated by the natural world, he studied animals and plants at the Jardin des Plantes, translating his observations into sculpture. A well-known figure in Montmartre, Guyot hosted the famed Bateau-Lavoir salon , later joining the Groupe des Douze alongside Pompon and Poupelet. This piece reflects his mastery of the Animalier tradition , offering a compelling blend of technical skill, charm, and historical importance . Dimensions: 5.5in Height x 21.5in Length x 6in. Depth Materials: Bronze Place of Origin: c. 1920's Period: Paris, France
