Mid-Century Modern Walnut and Leather Loveseat Attributed to Milo Baughman

Details

Mid-century modern "Cube" loveseat attributed to Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin, manufactured in the United States, circa 1970s. Resting within a sculptural walnut-stained oak frame, this distinctive design features a suspended upholstered body that appears to float effortlessly between the frame. Newly reupholstered in Italian boucle with rich leather piping and hand-tufted leather buttons, it offers an inviting balance of warmth, texture, and craftsmanship. The defining feature of the Cube collection is its exposed wooden framework, where every rail, corner, and joint remains fully visible rather than concealed beneath upholstery. This construction creates a striking contrast between the lines of the frame and the soft padded seating. The result is a loveseat that feels visually light while delivering exceptional comfort. From every angle, the interplay of solid wood, plush upholstery, and generous space gives the piece a distinctive presence. The design closely reflects the work of Milo Baughman, whose furniture helped redefine American modernism by pairing clean, functional forms with everyday livability. His seating designs remain sought after for their timeless appeal and enduring comfort, qualities that are beautifully reflected here. Professionally restored, this loveseat combines a beautifully refinished frame with premium Italian boucle upholstery, making it an exceptional example of American mid-century craftsmanship.
