Whimsical, Mahon Made Stoneware Style Stoneware Face Jug, 1970s Mahon Made Stoneware Style / United States Mahon Made Stoneware-style corked jug with a comical face sculpted into the front, characterized by a wide-open mouth, pinched nose and simply incised eyes. A zigzag band is incised around the lower body, adding another graphic detail to the otherwise earthy, handmade form. The original cork stopper is present. These charming vessels were made for a variety of small-scale uses, including as coin banks, incense holders or covered storage containers, and have an appealing quality that sits somewhere between folk object and studio pottery.
