Details

A monumental and stately ritual masterpiece featuring an imposing 14.5-inch silhouette, extensive incised jewelry detailing, and a magnificent sun-warmed aged brass patina carrying honest historical wear. This spectacular antique figurine stands as an absolute crown jewel within the collection due to its majestic scale, striking geometric presence, and deep cultural heritage. Hand-cast by master artisans using the ancestral lost-wax technique, the sculpture represents a classic Deepalakshmi (also known as Dipa Lakshmi or Pavai Vilakku)—the auspicious personification of the feminine presence as the bearer of light, prosperity, and divine grace. Standing at a commanding 14.5 inches tall, the figure centers on a perfectly balanced, symmetrical torso adorned with traditional tiered collar necklaces, cast armlets, and heavy wrist bangles. She extends her hands forward to present a flat ceremonial tray designed to hold ritual oil wicks or sacred temple offerings. The structural and figural detailing on this piece is exceptionally graphic and refined. Her face carries an incredible level of expressive character, characterized by wide, finely incised almond eyes, an integrated linear brow, and an elegant, meditative expression beneath a multi-tiered ornamental crown (jatamukuta). Her traditional lower garment (dhoti) cascades down into a smooth, column-like frame, anchored to an elevated, highly architectural double-stepped square plinth. Over generations of environmental exposure and ritual handling, the heavy metal alloy has aged into an exquisite, multi-toned aged brass patina. Bright, sun-warmed gold highlights shimmer across the high-relief casting, beautifully contrasted by deep earthy charcoal oxidation nestled within the etched jewelry and base tiers. This captivating found object serves as a premium conversational sculpture, bringing an instant layer of curated art history and structural gravitas to a bespoke console table, an editorial library shelf, or a minimalist gallery display.
