Danish Modern Teak Tambour Door Credenza by Arne Vodder

Details

Danish modern teak tambour door credenza designed by Arne Vodder for Sibast in Denmark, circa 1950s. Model 37 exemplifies the refined craftsmanship that established Scandinavian furniture as the international benchmark for modern design. Executed in beautiful teak, its uninterrupted facade is defined by expertly crafted tambour doors that disappear effortlessly into the cabinet, allowing full access to the interior without requiring additional clearance. The result is both visually seamless and remarkably practical. The credenza showcases the meticulous woodworking that distinguished Sibast's production during the 1950s. Handcrafted integrated pulls are sculpted directly into the doors, while the cabinet rests on elegantly tapered legs that create a light floating presence. Inside, the layout is exceptionally well considered, featuring four adjustable shelves and two crafted pull-out trays that offer flexible organization while reflecting the same attention to detail found throughout the exterior. Even the fully finished back demonstrates the uncompromising construction standards for which Sibast became renowned. Model 37 represents one of Arne Vodder's most celebrated storage designs and illustrates the qualities that made him known. While many Danish designers explored minimalism, Vodder became known for introducing softer contours, concealed functionality, and an extraordinary level of cabinetmaking that elevated everyday storage into collectible design. His partnership with Sibast produced some of the finest case pieces of the era, with original examples remaining among the most sought-after works of postwar Scandinavian furniture. The combination of flawless tambour door engineering, sculpted handcrafted details, and exceptional Danish craftsmanship makes this Model 37 an enduring icon of mid-century modern design.
