Designed by Knud Nielsen for Losning Mobelfabrik in the 1960s, this Danish modern credenza pairs exceptional Brazilian rosewood with a remarkably architectural iron base. The long, low cabinet showcases the rich color and dramatic figuring that make Brazilian rosewood one of the most prized materials in Scandinavian furniture of the period. The rosewood has been professionally refinished, bringing renewed depth to its warm reddish-brown tones and beautifully varied grain. Four sliding doors create a clean, uninterrupted facade, accented by Nielsen’s distinctive handcrafted handles. Behind the doors are three adjustable shelves, providing generous storage while preserving the streamlined exterior. What truly sets this example apart is its sculptural black iron base, rather than conventional legs, intersecting lengths of slender iron form an intricate series of angular supports beneath the cabinet. The open construction gives the substantial rosewood case a floating quality while creating a striking contrast between the warmth of the wood and the graphic black framework. Produced by Losning Mobelfabrik during a celebrated period of Danish furniture design, the credenza reflects the era’s emphasis on exceptional materials, functional craftsmanship, and inventive form. The combination of Brazilian rosewood, signature Knud Nielsen details, and the unusual sculptural base makes this a particularly compelling example of 1960s Danish modern design.
