Golden Sutra, Framed Burmese Manuscript

Details

The Golden Sutra is a monumental horizontal study in sacred typography and gilded artistry. This collection features four authentic 19th-century leaves from a Kammavaca, a high-status Buddhist manuscript used for formal monastic rituals. Each leaf is a masterwork of Burmese craftsmanship, featuring the distinctive Tamarind Seed script—a bold, square Pali calligraphy rendered in black lacquer over a ground of shimmering gold leaf and red cinnabar. The leaves are decorated with intricate "Kranok" (flame-like) filigree and celestial figures on the flanking panels. Professionally float-matted on a warm, linen-textured field, the four leaves create a rhythmic 53-inch panoramic display that balances ancient spiritual devotion with modern architectural scale. Encased in a minimalist gold-finished frame with black accents, this piece functions as a "wall of wisdom," bringing a quiet, luminous authority to a grand dining room, library, or professional suite. As an authentic 19th-century artifact, this manuscript is presented in its Original Antique Condition. The leaves exhibit a magnificent time-earned patina, including minor surface flaking of the gold leaf, soft rounding at the edges, and authentic variations in the lacquer. These "earned" marks of history verify its provenance as a functional ritual object from the monasteries of old Burma. • *Era: Late 19th Century • *Size: 53“(L) x 2" (D) x 21“(H) • *Material: Lacquered and Gilded Palm Leaf or Lacquered Cloth; Linen Matting; Gold-Leafed Wood Frame • *Color: Gold • *Features: Four distinct leaves; traditional Tamarind Seed Pali script; high-relief gold leaf and red cinnabar detailing. • *Origin: Myanmar (Burma) • *Condition: Original Antique Condition.
