Mid-Century Modern Starburst Walnut Table by Jack Cartwright for Founders

Details

Designed by Jack Cartwright for Founders Furniture Company during the 1960s, this striking mid-century modern table exemplifies the refined balance of organic materials and modernist engineering that defined Cartwright’s celebrated work. The round walnut top features a beautifully executed book-matched starburst pattern, creating a captivating focal point that draws the eye inward and showcases the natural beauty of the wood grain. Supporting the top is an elegant architectural base composed of brushed steel legs accented with solid walnut caps, a signature combination that gives the piece a light, sophisticated presence. Below, an intersecting X-form stretcher provides both structural integrity and visual interest, reinforcing the table’s sculptural appeal from every angle. Jack Cartwright’s designs for Founders are admired for their ability to blend warmth and modernity, and this table is no exception. The contrast between rich walnut and brushed steel feels as fresh today as when it was first introduced, making it equally at home in a carefully curated mid-century interior or a contemporary setting. Whether used as a dining table, game table, or intimate gathering place, this piece creates an atmosphere of effortless refinement. The dramatic starburst top catches changing light throughout the day, while the clean lines and thoughtful proportions give the room a sense of balance, warmth, and timeless design.
