Details
This substantial piece of primitive treenware is an authentic, large-scale Antique Indian Spice Grinder, or Masala Sil , a crucial fixture of traditional domestic life. Estimated to be late 19th to early 20th Century, its heavy, hand-turned hardwood form predates industrialized kitchen convenience. The impressive 14-inch height and robust construction distinguish this piece, making it a rare and oversized collector's example. The wood is layered with an irreplaceable, century-old patina—a rich, luster earned through generations of hands-on crushing and grinding. The wear marks and visible grain are the enduring texture of history, serving as a tangible connection to the ancient art of spice-making. This is truly unvarnished, authentic folk art. This artifact transitions beautifully from a utilitarian tool to a commanding, versatile decorative accent, providing the perfect textural element for Organic Modernism and Wabi-Sabi interiors. Use it as a Custom Side Table: Its wide, stable 9-inch diameter is the ideal, unexpected base for a small piece of custom furniture. Simply top it with a custom-cut 12-inch circular piece of glass or marble to create a stunning, one-of-a-kind primitive end table perfect for a reading nook or bedside or make it a Statement Planter: Use the deep well to house a dramatic succulent, orchid, or a cluster of dried botanicals. The juxtaposition of a living form against this aged wood is striking and sophisticated. *Era: Antique *Material: Wood *Size: 9.25 “(D) x 14“(H) *Color: Old Wood *Condition: Wear consistent with age & use, blemishes and imperfections will be present.
