Ceramic Bowl Michael Andersen & Søn Danish Studio Pottery Blue Volcano Glaze 1960s

Details

This exceptional studio pottery bowl features a striking "volcano" or fat lava style glaze effect, blending deep indigo, cobalt, and electric blues against an earthy cerulean pool. The vibrant, organic crystallization at the center contrasts beautifully with a thick, heavily textured matte brown border along the wide rim. Expertly crafted on the island of Bornholm, Denmark, this piece perfectly embodies the bold, tactile experimentation characteristic of vintage Danish Mid-Century Modern 1960s. The underside showcases the raw, unglazed dark brown stoneware body with a smooth, tactile finish. It is clearly incised with the model number 6204-2 and stamped with the iconic three-herring shield factory mark for Michael Andersen & Søn, certifying its authentic Rønne, Bornholm heritage. A highly collectible design object, this shallow bowl makes an ideal statement piece for a modernist interior. It functions beautifully as a catchall on an entryway console, a low centerpiece on a coffee table, or grouped with other Scandinavian art pottery on an open shelf. 6"W × 6"D × 1.3"H Vintage condition with age-appropriate wear consistent with use.
