This 60-inch panel is a narrow Igbo wall element rather than a full door, hand-carved from a single slab just 13 inches wide with a flowing, wave-like pattern of parallel ridged grooves curving across the surface in a broad S-shape. Heavy traces of white pigment or limewash remain in the carved recesses and across large sections of the face, a real historic finish rather than later damage, contrasting against the warm reddish-brown wood beneath. There's one crack running through the panel, honest age wear, structurally stable. Given its slim scale, this reads less as an architectural door and more as a narrow sculptural wall element, well suited to a slim gap between windows, a stairwell landing, or paired vertically with another narrow carved piece rather than displayed as a standalone door-scaled anchor. The whitewashed, weathered surface gives it a lighter, more textural presence than the darker patinated pieces elsewhere in the collection. *Origin: Igbo tradition, Nigeria *Era: Early 20th century *Material: Hand-carved hardwood, single narrow slab *Finish: Weathered wood with heavy traces of white pigment or limewash in the carved recesses *Dimensions: 13"W x 1.5"D x 60"H *Condition: Moderate antique wear, one crack along the panel, structurally stable, original carving intact A narrow antique Igbo wall panel from Nigeria, carved with a flowing wave-like ridged pattern retaining heavy traces of white pigment or limewash against a weathered reddish-brown surface. Q: How do you display a narrow carved panel like this if it's too slim to read as a full door? A: A panel this narrow works best treated as a sculptural wall element rather than a stand-in for a door. It suits a slim vertical gap, between two windows, beside a fireplace, or in a narrow stairwell run, where a full-width door wouldn't fit but a tall, slender carved piece adds real texture. It also pairs well vertically with one or two other narrow panels of varying heights for a more layered wall composition, rather than being asked to anchor a room on its own.
