Antique Miniature Lost-Wax Bronze Balakrishna

Details

Hand-cast via ancestral lost-wax casting methods, this enchanting micro-sculpture represents a highly beloved narrative in South Asian sacred art: the joyful, mischievous infancy of the deity Krishna, known affectionately as Balakrishna or Bala Krishna. The solid metal figure captures the divine infant in a lively, asymmetric posture, perched playfully with his right leg dangling downward while his left leg tucks beneath him. His left hand gestures dynamically toward his crown, and his rounded torso reflects the classic soft, youthful modeling characteristic of traditional devotional bronzes. Measuring just 4 inches tall including its pedestal, the figurine is integrated with a rustic, dark-stained wood architectural block that functions as his throne. The front panel of the timber mount features primitive hand-carved floral or vine details, elevating the tiny casting into a serious, museum-style gallery found object. Over generations of environmental exposure and handling, the heavy alloy has aged into a spectacular dark chocolate patina with subtle olive highlights catching the light along his shoulders and face. It operates as an exceptionally charming and narrative-rich accent piece, perfect for bringing old-world texture and storytelling to a layered entry tray, an editorial bookshelf niche, or a modern mantel grouping.
