Hanau Ornate Cherub Pepper Grinders Pair Johann Kurz Sterling Silver

Details

German Hanau sterling silver pair of pepper grinders or mills, decorated with acanthus leaf patterns and floral garlands. On the front and back, there are scenic depictions of playing cherubs. Handles have carved wooden finials. Bodies are monolithic with swing shutters on the top. Made by Johann S. Kurz, c. 1890. Both pieces have French import marks. These rare Hanau sterling grinders are 1 1/2" in top diameter, 2 3/8" in base diameter and 3 1/4" tall. The soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing. The excellent original condition and clear, crisp detail, with no monograms, removals, repairs or alterations, make this an especially attractive offering.
