Mid-Century Modern Sculptural Walnut Lounge Chairs by Ernst Schwadron

Details

Mid-century modern lounge chairs designed by Austrian designer Ernst Schwadron in the 1940s, showcasing the graceful balance of European modernism and timeless craftsmanship. Newly upholstered in Italian boucle, the chairs are accented with rich brown leather piping and matching tufted leather buttons, creating a refined contrast that highlights their sculptural silhouette. The gently flared wingback, embracing arms, and elegant Klismos-style solid walnut legs give these lounge chairs a light presence while offering exceptional comfort. Every curve has been carefully considered, resulting in a design that feels both inviting and visually distinctive. The warm walnut legs complement the soft texture of the boucle, while the leather trim defines the flowing lines of the upholstery. Ernst Schwadron was an Austrian architect and interior designer whose work bridged European modernism with American luxury after emigrating to the United States. Best known for designing refined residential interiors and custom furnishings, Schwadron favored clean forms, exceptional materials, and refinement over ornamentation. His furniture remains highly sought after for its sculptural character and enduring craftsmanship. This pair represents an exceptional example of 1940s modern design. With their distinctive profile, premium materials, and timeless appeal, these chairs are equally suited for collectors of important design and those seeking beautifully crafted seating that remains as striking today as when it was first created.
